Slabtown Horsecamp, LLC sits on the very edge of the Paddy Creek Wilderness Area near Roby, MO.  The horse community is welcoming new owners Steve and Maggie Short who took ownership of the camp this spring.  Many plans and preparations are underway as there were needed upgrades combined with tons of new ideas for the camp.

Steve and Maggie hail from up north in Iowa and have been welcomed by all.  Those who have ridden the area for years and new folks as well find some great riding in this location.

Steve and Maggie pitched a fine bar-b-que for 4th of July that was enjoyed by the whole camp!

Plans are in the works for the fall riding season so if you have never ridden here October/ Halloween or November/Thanksgiving might be a great time to check it out.   Fall is a particularly pretty time of year in the Missouri Ozarks.

The riding is excellent through hardwood forests along Big and Little Paddy creek, and other drainage streams that hold wet weather water. I just spent two weekends in a row here, riding new trails and old.  I rode an average of 15-18 miles per day and only ran into other parties rarely.  I enjoy solitude and quiet and this is one place you can find your place to revive and recharge.

You can ride up to Roby Lake for a picnic lunch and swing back on the Wilderness South Loop and take the Rim trail down to Little Paddy creek for a swim and then continue on through the forest on the secret trail back to camp.  Makes for an excellent day of riding and relaxing.

Along both the North and South loops of the Wilderness trails there are beautiful views, overlooks and places to stop and hear the wind in the pines.

Little Colorado Overlook

The Big Piney River is within riding distance from camp and has a beautiful high bluff where the eagles nest.  Early spring riding you can usually see them high above the river in their natural habitat.
